For fun,4 man tournament with friends for cards...report! Playing:Gladiator Beast

Hey people! What's up?! I'm here to give you guys a small fun tournament report! Sometimes me and my friends will put up cards and play for them in swiss style tournaments. Now the tournament only really consists of me and 3 of my friends. So essentially it becomes a 3 round tournament.... WHICH I KNOW ITS REALLY BAD but hey...I went to a local an hour away from me with my cousin before and the tournament was only 3 rounds as well...so....IT HAPPENS! So anyways for this tournament my one friend who joined decided to just scoop all his rounds cause last minute he got too lazy to play. So amongst us the decks that were played were: Gladiator Beast(me), Gadgets with Tin Goldfish, and Malefic Stun with the virus cards. I decided to play Gladiator Beast because it is a deck that I am most familiar with! I've been playing Glads since 2009. Every time I tell my friend I was playing them on a certain day, he would just shrug it off and tell me they're irrelevant. So I wanted to make them relevant.

So Round 1 Begins

Round 1 VS The friend that scoops
He scooped that round so I auto won. I wanted to play it out but he just got lazy. Oh well

Round 2 VS Gadgets with Tin Goldfish
Game 1:I was jsut overwhelmed pretty quickly and could not get over a cowboy in the end. I ended up losing to a cowboy...so mad...
Game 2: I feel the pressure is on so I begin to throw cards at him. A lot of my super secret tech cards... I end up over powering him with spirit reaper and a gladiator beast that just wont go away...
Game 3:He opens up all monsters. Eventually it looks like he's getting a feel for the game and it looks like he might actually do stuff;  But in fact, I kinda allow him to walk into things. I couldn't get over a cyber dragon for the longest time. He ruined my field of equeste + another monster. I later come back with a reborn play and a book of moon and eventually I take the game.

Round 3 VS Malefic Virus
Game 1:This is actually the worst match-up for him. Not because Gladiator Beasts are OP but because he himself cannot beat Gladiator Beasts to save his life. Game 1 I just control it with massive backrow and a constant loop of Gladiator Beast tagging.
Game 2:He flips over skill drain and what not. It actually is the longest grind game of history. We take about 20-30 minutes on game 2. Eventually he over powers me.
Game 3: I hold it down with fossily dyna. Yes, Fossil DYNA. I heard it's a good card...but its just probably a rumor. So I boarded in 2 and he just got poked by it like 6 times. In the end he cant get over it and I win.

So In conclusion Gladiator Beasts won this tournament.Granted it was a 4 man tourney and it was only 3 rounds and 1 man scooped all his rounds but hey it's okay... SO WHAT DO I WIN IN THE END?!

Well from our gadget player, he has to give me 3 of his super penguin soldiers....(lol i know but hey I wanna make something very troll like with that...ahaha)
AND FROM OUR MALEFIC STUN PLAYER.... I get his 2 Obelisk(the playable version). Our running joke thats actually a fact is whenever we make a deck we have to ask ourselves, Do we have an out to Obelisk? ahaha that guys too OP. So sad frogs is the only deck that actually makes real use of Obelisk.

Anyways this was just a fun tournament. If I had lost I would've lost 3 Grapha's. That's a no no. My girlfriend got me those. So I'm glad I won. Maybe for our next tournament I'll try Glads again. I like the deck. It's still good. I think..ahaha Like they haven't changed in the past how many years. Our only real hit on the list was Bestiari to 1. Also if you include rescue cat....then that was another hit. Other than that Gladiator Beasts have remained with the same power. It just takes a really skilled player or maybe even a super creative build in order to win.When Elemental Dragons comes out though or even judgment for Prophecy... I don't know how they shall fair. But for now they're fun and I had fun with this tournament. It's good to do stuff like this. If you're new to the tournament scene, definitely try some practice tournaments with friends to get more comfortable.  It's nice practice and a nice time with friends. Alright that's it.

but here's a quick update on how my gladiator beasts are doing:

I am very proud of the countdown but really the minute you bring out heraklinos..it's gg...Also this persons build wascomplete crap...I dueled this person twice.....AND HE DOESNT KNOW WHAT HE/SHE IS DOING. like he managed to final countdown and one day of peace in both games,1s turn. Tell me why you would set waboku + frozen soul and activate those cards on my main phase.....WTH WAS THE POINT OF ONE DAY OF PEACE?! also this person did not know anything about chains. I had heraklinos he had 1 facedown and an effect veiler in hand. I went into BP,before it hit bp he sent veiler to stop my heraklinos...then he chained jar of greed to the effect veiler....so I chained heraklinos to jar of greed....lul.....

The way that goes is

effect veiler>jar of greed>heraklinos

then it resolves backwards

Heraklinos>jar of greed>effect veiler

chains build up then resolve backwards............simple as that......

FACT:Gladiator's eat dragons

Okay soooo dueled a little bit more appox.2 times more.still continuing to play gladiator beasts. Overall they're really solid if played and built correctly.My newest 2 duels were up against T.G. stun and also another chaos dragon deck.

So anyways

the chaos dragon duel.... I was at 7700 life points brought him down to 100 life points.This was a legit built chaos dragons too. He almost beat me though.He was down to top decking.Nothing on field.Nothing in hand. What doe she end up top decking?monster reborn for his red-eyes>.>.....7700 life points to 100...I can't believe one card just flipped the whole duel around....At this point I have no more dark hole etc... I need a trap  to take out red-eyes or my super secret sexy monster to deal with it.I draw!!!!mst...>.> He draws.He atacks.mp2 he summons tour guide...I loved this because he ended up going for leviair which got lyla and popped 1 of my cards. Now in theory,yes good move. But he just gave me targets to atack to get my gladiator beast effects.I also have a bestiari in my grave. So all i need to do is top deck a gladiator beast or proving ground,attack lyla,tag for darius,get bestiari,contact fusion for gyzarus and then pop leviari +red-eyes to regain control.....THIS WAS IT! I draw......!!!!and to my surprise....MONSTER REBORN ahhhh I end up monster reborning his darkflare dragon that he milled with lyla and I aacked leviair for game.Do I consider myself a sack cause I top decked that nonsense?no.7700-100 lifepoints,he already deserved to lose,man was top decking and I out played him continuously,no one can tell me he has no cards on field and in hand but top decks reborn and deserves to win. So yes I ended up just winning.

The T.G. Stun player....Heavy first turn helps...nuff said...but it's not really that card that garunteed my win. It was that + 2 warngins + dimensional prison +starlight road + a 2100 laquari he just could not over come. I ended up winning by him surrendering on i think the 6th or 7th turn.



ALRIGHT THATS IT FOR NOW.I'M GOING TO TRY OTHER DECKS NOW.I will continue glads later on though,they just so good.

Gladiator's bring their arena to ygo pro!

Alright I'm done with scraps for the time being. It went far all things considered. Told myself I would stop playing it upon a loss to test out other decks.

I ended up in the end losing to gishki i got 2-0'd. Game 1 the ritual monsters were way too much. Then game 2 I got shatted on by dark hole,heavy storm,mystical space typhoon,double salvage then 1 monster + 2 gishki ritual monsters....YAY!>.>

ANYWAYS the deck I'm currently playing is gladiator beasts. I've played the deck since 2010. I quit it everynow and then because I hate it...lol.Not because I think it sucks,I honestly think it is a very viable deck currently.Their chariot,the reusable counter trap with equeste and then of course retiari?!the d.d. crow of gladiator beasts etc.. I think it's still a pretty good deck o run. I hate it personally though because sometimes it gets a little to bland and boring for my liking and then when I build the deck in real life,I can seel it...trade it away....but it will end up coming back to me in 1-2 months.... >.> don't know if thats a good thing or bad thing. I've built glads about 9 times now...the last time,I got everything for free.One way or anoher..I cannot escape it.

So i've only been playing single duels for the time being.I plan on playing minimum 100 single duels. Single duels will give me a little bit of experience playing them in this current format and give me an idea of what I should be siding.After the minimum 100,I will start doing full matches. The full maches will give me more experience with siding etc...

So I look forward to how this deck will play it out.

couple of my thoughts on the matchups:

WHO PLAYS SELF DESTRUCT BUTTON?>.> Ygo Pro has a failed and soon to be removed ranking system.Everyone simply plays unranked duels.Maybe this person is testing for a locals or regional etc..?highly unlikely. So to be a troll?Possibly.but it still doesnt make sense. Maybe he takes pride in wasting my time. well it ended turn 3 so he ate up about 2-3 minutes which I do no care about in the slightest bit so...lol

Dark Worlds thus far have been my toughest match-up. It's not because the deck struggled from the get go but 1 of the dark world players heavy stormed me then dark holed in same due. a turn or so later I got grapha'd twice in the same turn. Then I got beat down by 2 graphas till I lost.The other dark world player proved that your hand could be completely useless  with just dark world monsters,but the minute you top deck a discard outlet.GG.

Chaos Dragons. People might find it hard to believe I ended up beating them. Honestly Chariot came in handy a coupleof times but mostly I abused Gladiator Beast Retiari so much. Do not underestimate that card.

SooverallI played a bunch of single duels via ygo pro then 3 matches on ygo pro and 3 matches via dueling network.

Honestly I love the duels over at ygo pro more. Not because I considered them easy;but,because no wasting an enormous amount of time figuring out things like...if you use utopia to negate bls attack....can it still attack again...NO IT CANT READ YOUR CARD>.>

So I'll give you a run down of the record so far:

Now a break down on the newest matches

Match 2:Gladiator Beast
Verdict:2-1 Win
Game 1: Scrap Dragon was a boss.nuff said.
Game 2:It's hard to fight back when this person manages to always have the same opening or close to it + like set 4 backrow...and then next turn beat down...set another backrow...ahh...so I lose + double chariots killed me. I needed to top deck 1 level 4 to compliment my only monster on field ,scrap beast...he had 200 life points left.... I draw!!!!!!!!!call of the haunted....scoop...
Game 3:Close game. Not  in terms of life points but it was so back and forth. Mostly because of this persons backrow... Twas too intense.... Also I misplayed early game which I never thought I couldhave recovered from. But i did...go figure.I ended up winning here.

Match 3:Wind-Up's
Verdict:1-0 then quit. I literally waited there for him/her to finish siding....I waited for about 10 minutes then I opened up firefox to do my own thing while I wait then I come back another 10 minutes later to find out this person is gone.
Game 1:Bottomless laughs at his zenmaighty and normal summoning hunter.... :)  on his second last turn He set 1 backrow and set a monster.I set one and used scrap dragons effect to pop my new card + the monster. I wasn't scared of a face down.Turns out I then get effect veilered.So I proceed to atack still not fearing the backrow and I run over a rat.He/she top deck's and surrenders.
Game 2/3:never happened.Person playing a scrubby meta deck and flee.


So that's it so far. I shallcontinue more later.Just too much yugioh is hurting meh brain.

Playing my Evol deck still. I'm really loving the deck.To be honest if it wasn't for evo-force,westlo,and evo-diversity,I wouldn't touch the deck. It's increasingly fun. I've only lost once but I'm so far 12-1.

The 1 loss was still to tg stun who summoned photon sabre tiger and set 5......jeez....

ANYWAYS....this time around I dueled gladiator beast. This man has my respect for playing gladiator beast. They're not that great this format. Only thing I like about them that makes them a considerable deck is chariot.There are just so much better alternatives to play than gladiator beast's. But he played them and kudos to him. BUT i opened up  with evo-diversity,double mst,evo-force. I started by using double mst. I hit solemn and a chariot. I used diversity to get najasho. I summoned najasho and activated evo-force.Brought out cerato then diplo. You must understand if you bring out diplo first,it will miss the timing.Popped his last backrow. He chained the waboku. I overlayed for laggia and set e-con. Next turn He tried to go for gyzarus. I negated with laggia eff. and from there I just wrecked with laggia and vulcano. Then top decked a cerato. Overlayed cerato on vulcano making a dolkka. I then activated my set a turn earlier compulsory evactuion device on his only card on the field. Then I attacked with both for game.

good game all things considered. hope to duel him in the future as well.
